CHAPTER 18
"THE REUNION"

PREVIOUSLY:
Lizy and Rex decided to team up in an effort to escape the caverns where they have been trapped.

"The exit is just around this bend," Rex explained as he and Lizy advanced. Indeed, Lizy could see it was, since there was a bright light ahead.

"We'll only get one shot at this," Rex continued signaling for Lizy to stop just before the turn, "Last I checked, there was a detachment sent here by Cruel of eleven minions. I'll attack on the left, and you attack the right. We also need to keep a lookout, since the mosquitoes are still patrolling the skies over Mt. Lizard. On the count of three, we charge!"

"Right," Lizy agreed, as the two got their swords ready and assumed position for the attack.

Rex began to count. "One..." Lizy and Rex steadied themselves... "Two..." Rex hesitated a moment, then took a deep breath... "THREE!"

Rex's shout echoed through the corridors of the cavern and the two lizards charged forward. Then, as they rounded the bend they both skidded to a stop. There were not eleven guards! There were at least thirty, and all of them were ready to fight.

"It's about time you showed up!" taunted the alligators. "Cruel would love to have you over for tea!"

"Oh great, now they're going to tell jokes," Rex mumbled as he lead the charge again.

Lizy and Rex crashed into the ranks of the enemy, but as soon as their swords clashed with those of their foes, another small troop of alligators rushed from around the bend. Lizy and Rex had been spied on the whole time they were in the caves, and now they were surrounded! What rotten luck had befallen them.

"I can't let them keep Sandy!" cried Lizy, charging the ranks of the enemy with renewed strength. Cruel's forces could not hold him!

"He's going to break through!" cried one of the minions. All of them began to push against Lizy with their shields in one unified effort. Alas, Lizy wasn't strong enough to take them all on at once.

"Don't let them hold you down!" roared Rex in delight, returning his sword sword to its sheath and beginning to push along with Lizy. Together, the alligators didn't stand a chance against them.

"We can't hold them any longer!" remarked one of the minions worriedly.

And to make matters even worse for the alligators - and, thus, better for Lizy and Rex - a group of soldiers appeared in the opening to the caves. And not Cruel's soldiers, mind you, but a group of Lizard Valley's own warriors!

"It seems I'm not a minute too late!" laughed Lizy's old friend, Fonus, the Captain of the Guard at Mt. Lizard. It seems he was the leader of this rescue. And with Fonus and the soldiers were, surprisingly enough, Speedy, Chubby, Bob, and...

"Guardian Line!" cried the minions. At the sight of such a foe, they took off in a retreat deep into the caverns.

Lizy brushed himself off and grabbed his sword.

"I'm so glad to see you guys!" Lizy sighed in relief.

"Likewise," said Fonus with a smirk, "We hear you have a plan to overthrow Cruel."

"Let's hear it, then," Line added with a laugh.
